Leaving School for a Medical Reason

Students requesting to go home for a medical issue must call from the clinic. A parent or guardian must pick the student up from the clinic; students may not drive themselves home for medical reasons.

Medication at School

  • A parent, guardian or other responsible adult must bring all medication to the clinic.
  • Prescription medication must be in its original container with the student’s name, medication name and dosage directions.
  • Non-prescription medication must be in its original, unopened, clearly labeled and unexpired container.
  • Emergency medication may be carried by a student only when the required medical documentation is on file with the clinic.

When Students Should Stay Home

  • Fever: Students with a temperature of 100°F or higher must remain home until fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
  • Diarrhea or vomiting: Students must remain home until symptom-free for 24 hours.
  • Students who cannot participate meaningfully in the school day should stay home to rest and recover.

Annual Health Services Consent

CFISD requires annual parent or guardian consent before qualified school staff provide non-emergency routine health-related services. Families should review the district information and complete the high school consent form for each student.
