June 13, 2014—Two CFISD principals have been chosen by the Lamar University Principal Academy Selection Committee to participate in the Principal Academy XVIII.
Owens Elementary School principal Laura Barrett and Cypress Springs High School principal Travis Fanning were among 25 local school leaders selected for the program.
“I am very excited and honored to have the opportunity to continue to learn and develop my leadership skills as a member of the Lamar University Principal Academy,” Barrett said.
In the Principal Academy, participants will become better principals while serving as resources and/or change agents back in their home districts. According to the Principal Academy website, the program has been routinely rated by alumni as the best staff development training they have received—including their certification program.
“It is truly an honor to be selected for such a prestigious program,” Fanning said. “I am certain that I will obtain knowledge from this experience that will afford me the opportunity to greatly impact the faculty, students and communities of Cypress Springs High School and CFISD.”
The academy provides advanced leadership training for principals who desire an opportunity for self-renewal and skill enhancement. It allows participants to assess their personal and professional skills and to enhance their leadership skills in such areas as developing a shared vision, group process, motivation techniques and personnel assessment.
The academy will consist of six three-day sessions and one four-day retreat occurring once each month throughout the 2014-2015 school year.
The Principal Academy XVIII calendar is scheduled as follows:
