Surrounded by Panthers football players and cheerleaders and a Houston Texans cheerleaders, Cypress Springs head coach Rick Cobia accepts the Houston Texans Coach of the Week award at practice on Sept. 2.

Sept. 4, 2015—Cypress Springs High School head football coach and athletic coordinator Rick Cobia was named the Houston Texans High School Coach of the Week this week following the Panthers’ 51-12 victory over Mayde Creek on Aug. 27 at the Berry Center.

Houston Texans marketing coordinator for events Brett Stewart and Texans cheerleaders delivered a $2,500 check to the Panther football program during their Sept. 2 practice session.

Cobia also received a signed certificate from Texans head coach Bill O’Brien and general manager Rick Smith. Cobia will also be invited to attend the Texans’ annual Coach of the Week banquet at the end of the 2015 season.

“This is a job you do because you love it,” Cobia said. “I’ve done it for 33 years, and I’ve never one day regretted going to work. I consider it an honor to receive this award.”

Cobia said he was proud of the positive direction that the Panthers’ program has taken since he was named the new coach in 2012.

“I think the long hours and the level of commitment of the teachers and coaches and community and kids—that award is a direct reflection of the direction we’re trying to go,” he said. “The credit doesn’t go to one guy. There are a lot of people who made this happen.”
