—Cypress Falls and Cypress Springs high schools collected donations at the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Oct. 2 at Pridgeon Stadium. Donations supported the Houston affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation—the largest source of nonprofit funding for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment in Southeast Texas.

In addition to raising funds, courageous women who are either battling or have beaten breast cancer were recognized as honorary captains of Cypress Falls and Cypress Springs high schools. The women were escorted on to the field by sons, grandsons, husbands and friends at the contest’s coin toss.

“It is such an honor. It was a surprise to me,” said Patricia Solis, grandmother of Cypress Falls football player Andrew Azurin. “I’m going to try not to cry, but I’m so happy I was selected to do this.”

Both schools will continue to raise funds through the month of October to help battle breast cancer.
